Clik here to view. - The barrel room in the Cellar at Xavier Clua
While the weather has been cooperating for the most part today is by far one of windiest days I have experienced in a long time, and thankfully they have plenty of windmills in the area to harvest all the wind power, because they were certainly working overtime today.
Xavier Clua is a quiet and unassuming but very proud of what he has been able to accomplish in this tough region to grow high quality wines. The ground is tough dusty and rich with minerals. He built a new winery a few years ago which will allow him to expand at a comfortable pace and not worry about constraints of a small space.
He does several levels of wine and they are all great for their respective price points. Many of you enjoyed his Rose from last year, he once again made a rose which we will get a few cases of, but it is a little lighter than last years.
The Mas d’en Pol level of wines provide excellent value and quality. I was truly impressed with the 2011 vintage across the board. The top of the line Millenium is outstanding and often overlooked wine. His dessert wine is another often overlooked wine, but paired witht he right dessert it is simply delicous.
Look for these wines in the coming months.
