Tasted Vinya Selva de Mar 1998

After a short ride up the coast this morning we arrived at one of my favorite wineries Mas Estela.  As I mentioned last year there is something calming about this part of the country, and especially Mas Estela located at the most north eastern part of Spain and overlooking the Mediterraen Sea and France.  When walking through the vineyards there is a sense of calmness as you climb the hills and sea the sea and the Pyrenes.  After taking a short tour of the winery and seeing Salvadore Dali’s house with the broken eggs and all.  We had a nice meal of freshly caught seafood and local cheeses.  We then proceeded to taste all of the current releases and last years releases.  After going through those wonderful wines Didier pulled out a real treat for us, a magnum of Vi di Luna 2006 and Vinya Selva de Mar 1998.  Wow both of these wines speak volumes about the quality and consistentcy he is producing his wines.  The 1998 showed little or no age and the 2006 Vi di Luna was a pure powerhouse.  I was very sad to see my glass and the bottles empty at the end of the evening.

Tomorrow we are off to see Jordi at Finca Valldosera.
